Epic - Napoleonic Pocket Armies

Introduction

This project is underpinned by the following considerations;

An army will have around 5 - 6 infantry units, 1 light cavalry unit, 1 heavy cavalry unit and 1 artillery battery.

It's prime purpose is that for those times when I have back / leg pain flare-ups, that I can continue to game by sitting at the dining table with a 4' x 2' gaming mat played out right under my nose and can get some dice rolling, with minimum stretching etc.

These will be subject of fast painting and not intended for viewing closer than a couple of feet and that will mean surrendering to a rougher paint job than I would ordinarily be happy with. The figures will be glued to bases and then painted, with the brush only going where the eye can see and the brush can reach, hopefully this will help instil the discipline of 'fast paint'.

There will be a reduced number of bases in play. A cavalry unit will have a single base (80mm x 60mm), artillery will have a single base with three guns (80 x 40) and infantry will be represented by two bases (each being 55mm x 35mm for a 110mm frontage), but each base will have 3 ranks, so that despite the small frontage, there will be 60 heads in the unit, giving a good sense of mass.

Two bases can give line formation, assault column and square. For march column, the unit will look like assault column, except it will have a mounted figure at the front to identify it being inbound march order.

The two armies will be Napoleonic French and Prussian.
